Products

All soap and skincare products are made using 100% natural plant-based ingredients including oils, butters, botanicals, and clays. Our shampoo and conditioner bars are made using plant-derived surfactants which work to gently clean and condition hair. All of our products are vegan-friendly. We always purchase our ingredients from well-established, reputable suppliers to ensure they’re responsibly and ethically sourced. We use minimal packaging which is always compostable and/or recyclable. For example, our soap, shampoo, and conditioner bars are packaged in glassine paper which is naturally biodegradable and compostable, while our body oil is bottled in 30% PCR (post-consumer recyclable) bottles, a fully recyclable bottle with at least 30% of the materials used to make it having been previously recycled.

Oils and Butters in Our Award-Winning Soap

The following are the oils and butters we use in our soap.

Coconut oil (sodium cocoate). Coconut oil provides good cleansing properties as well as nice big bubbles. Coconut is the number one oil used in soap-making. It’s used in just the right amount in our soap, as too much can strip skin of its natural oils.

Olive oil (sodium olivate). We use olive pomace in our soap. Pomace is the oil that’s left after the extra virgin, virgin, and refined olive oils have been extracted. Pomace is great for soap-making as it helps the soap set quickly while having the same fatty acid profiles as the other olive oils. It’s also good for skin as it helps it retain moisture.

Shea butter (sodium shea butterate). Shea is regarded as somewhat of a luxury ingredient in soap, but we like to use it as it makes a truly creamy bar of soap.

Sweet almond oil (sodium almondate). This oil helps to produce the soap’s lather while being generally good for skin. It also adds a smoothness to the soap.

Castor oil (sodium castorate). Castor is used to help stabilise the lather produced by the coconut oil and, to a lesser degree, the sweet almond oil. It also gives fluffiness to the lather.

Sodium hydroxide. This isn’t listed on the ingredients label as only the saponified ingredients are listed, meaning those ingredients that are in the final product that have been made into soap, or appear naturally in the soap such as glycerin - see below. Sodium hydroxide (also known as lye or caustic soda) is necessary to make soap. None remains in the finished product.

Water (aqua). Used to dissolve the sodium hydroxide before adding to the oils. Most of the water evaporates as the soap cures but some remains.

Glycerin (sometimes called glycerol). This is not added to the soap, but is a natural by-product of the soap-making process. In commercially produced soap it’s syphoned off and used in more expensive cosmetics such as moisturising creams. In soap it acts as a humectant, attracting moisture to the skin.

Please note that all of our soap contains sweet almond oil - which appears as sodium almondate on the ingredients list - which may not be suitable for people with nut allergies.

Essential Oils

We use only 100% natural essential oils in our products. Not only for the aromatherapy benefits that these oils deliver to both mind and body but because I believe that one of the pleasures of formulating skincare products is blending essential oils to create a wonderful unique fragrance. For example, our award-winning Sea Swimmers soap contains a blend of spearmint and lemon verbena essential oils to create a fresh, breezy fragrance reminiscent of a summer's day at the beach, while our lavender and patchouli soap has a sweet, earthy fragrance, the combination of these two essential oils which work beautifully together. We also use essential oils in our skin balm, body oil, and shampoo bars, where they not only delicately fragrance these products but also deliver beneficial properties. Please note that essential oils naturally contain potential allergens; these are detailed on each product’s ingredients listing (they are usually listed in italics, the most common ones being limonene and linalool).

Botanicals and Clays

Again, these are completely natural ingredients and are added to our soaps for exfoliation, colour, and enhancing fragrance.

Body Oil and Skin Balm

Details of the oils and butters we use in our body oil and skin balm can be found on the relevant pages for each of these products under the ‘Shop’ tab. These are 100% natural products using butters, oils, and essential oils to provide natural, simple, good skincare.

Solid Shampoo and Conditioner Bars

These are made using plant-derived surfactants and have been formulated to gently clean and condition hair. As with all of our other products, they are vegan-friendly.

Although these surfactants are obtained from plants they undergo a chemical process to turn them into ingredients that are suitable for use in products such as shampoos and body washes. One of the benefits of surfactants in a product such as a shampoo is that the pH of the finished product can be balanced so that it doesn't upset the pH of our hair.

The surfactants we use are mild and conditioning. When combined with the natural ingredients we use in our shampoo bar, they help to produce a bar that gently and effectively cleans hair while generating a stable foamy lather.

Further details of our products can be found on each product’s respective page under the ‘Shop’ tab.

All products are suitable for use by those aged 3 years and above.

All products comply with current UK cosmetic regulations and are covered by relevant cosmetic product safety reports.
